BHEL has partnered with an Italian aerospace company Leonardo S.p.A to bid for the gun contract worth 6500 crore from the army.
As per the report apart from Bhel, Larsen & Toubro and Advanced Weapons & Equipment India Ltd (AWEIL) are the other two participants who are bidding for developing and supplying this weapon.
According to officials aware of the development, Larsen & Toubro and Advanced Weapons & Equipment India Ltd (AWEIL) of Kanpur are the other participants in bidding for developing and supplying this weapon.
This proposal was issued by the Ministry of Defence in oct last year. The Ministry of Defence has issued the proposal for 220 guns and 1.42 lakh rounds of ammunition.
As per the report, the bidders have to prepare a prototype of armor before getting the final approval from the government. The winner has to provide the spares and maintenance for 25 years from the date of the agreement.
India is developing three layered air defense system to strike down all incoming aircraft and missiles at around 400km range.
